Boots Ireland raises €205,000 for cancer

by Guy Hiscott

Boots Ireland has raised €205,000 in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and won Best Corporate Charity Partnership at the Fundraising Ireland Awards.

The money will pay for 586 nights of care throughout the country, providing free nursing services for cancer patients in their own homes.

Boots Ireland supports a number of key awareness campaigns throughout the year, including joining forces with Operation Transformation to help people stop smoking with the Boots Stop for Good service in January.

Carmel O’Brien, HR director for Boots Ireland, commented: ‘Cancer affects so many people in Ireland so supporting the Irish Cancer Society has real meaning for us and we want to continue to help make a difference in the lives of people affected by this condition.’

John McCormack, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society, added: ‘The fundraising activity of the Boots staff and customers will help guarantee that we can continue to provide our night nursing service to those that need it.’

The fundraising campaign for 2014/2015 will include a variety of initiatives with the Boots Night Walk for Night Nurses taking place again on 9 August 2014.
