DDRB proposes fees uplift for dentists

The Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) has recommended a 1.76% uplift to item-of-service fees to Northern Ireland GDPs for 2014/15.
The British Dental Association (BDA) now awaits the response of the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) to the recommendation.
The BDA has been lobbying to ensure that all parties fully understand and accept that an uplift to net pay must consider expenses.
The 2013/14 uplift to GDS is due to be implemented in Northern Ireland from 1 April 2014.
Peter Crooks, chair of the Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee, said: ‘Dentists in Northern Ireland have been bearing the brunt of pay cuts and successive under-funding in the Health Service, and this inevitably impacts on patient’s oral health.
‘This situation is untenable and we look forward to hearing the Department’s response to the recommendations.’
