Dental tourism figures plummet

The number of people in Ireland travelling abroad for dental treatments has dropped significantly over the past decade.
Dentists are also beginning to travel to see patients, according to research collated by Teethwise.
The researchers commented: ‘Dentists we talked to in Hungary confirmed that the number of Irish patients travelling for dental treatment has almost completely dried up.
‘A lot of eastern European dentists now provide implants and cosmetic dentistry in Ireland, but this has not had the same downward effect on implant prices as in the UK.
‘The major factor that has caused the drop in patients travelling from Ireland is likely to be the economic climate. In a lot of cases, it will make economic sense for patients to travel for dental implants.’
