Crowning the best dentists in Ireland
by Guy Hiscott
The Irish Dentistry Awards 2014 kicked off on Friday 31 January, welcoming more than 300 dental professionals for an evening of joyous celebration in Dublin.
The night saw outstanding multiple wins, with new awards categories illuminating the importance of teamwork and the dental care professional. One lucky attendant, Dr Aisling O’Malley, even won a free iPad courtesy of Henry Schein Ireland.
Portobello Dental Clinic was awarded Overall Practice of the Year, and Zara McKibbin won Best Dental Care Professional for Northern Ireland. Siobhan Kelleher received the award for Best Dental Care Professional for the Republic of Ireland.
Celebrating the team’s win, Nick Beirne, principal dentist at the Portobello Dental Clinic, says: ‘It’s fantastic. We recognise that lots of practices put in phenomenal effort, so we’re very lucky. Winning these awards gives the team a great boost. It gives you that push to keep going.’
But there was even more to celebrate than the awards: following a touching speech from Elizabeth Laverack, consultant to the Mouth Cancer Foundation, more than £1,600 was raised for the Mouth Cancer Foundation.
Elizabeth comments: ‘I was delighted to attend the Irish Dentistry Awards in Dublin. It is such a prestigious event and the Mouth Cancer Foundation is very grateful to everyone for their substantial contributions.
Dr Vinod Joshi, charity founder, added: ‘The charity relies on voluntary donations for all its activities and income, so rest assured that every penny the charity received is highly valued and put to important use.’
The Irish Dentistry Awards 2014 took place at the opulent Round Room at the Mansion House in Dublin. The full coverage of the Irish Dentistry Awards 2014 will be featured in the February issue of Irish Dentistry, including pictures and details on next year’s awards, taking place on 30 January 2015.
Once again, Irish Dentistry magazine would like to thank the Irish Dentistry Awards 2014 sponsors for the invaluable support given: Biohorizons, Denplan, Henry Schein Dental, Southern Cross Dental Laboratories, Ivoclar Vivadent and Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programme.
The Irish Dentistry Awards was set up to celebrate the very best in Irish dentistry, recognising excellence, hard work and dedication within the profession.
