Dental students

by Guy Hiscott

Cameras flashed and the audience clapped enthusiastically as dental and medical students took to the catwalk for the annual SWOT fashion show.

SWOT (Students Working Overseas Trust) is a fourth-year dentistry and medicine student society that aims to raise money for vital Third World medical equipment.

This year, the fashion show raised £30,000 from ticket sales and a raffle, which will be added to money already collected from ongoing events such as blood pressure clinics and bag packing. It is expected that a total fund of £50,000 will be collected, from which students will then buy equipment that is considered standard here.

Dramatically dressed dental student Laura Andrews said: ‘I have really enjoyed taking part in the SWOT fashion show, even though it took up a lot of my time. All the hard work is worth it when you see the photographs everyone brings back from their placement of the equipment being used, and to know that every pound we raised is a life saved.’
