Certificate in implant dentistry course opens in Dublin

by Guy Hiscott

A new course aimed squarely at Irish dentists looking to branch out into implants will launch in Dublin this April.
The course, arranged by the Irish Faculty of Primary Dental Care (IFPDC), is a first-class course on implantology, specifically aimed at primary care clinicians who want to diversify their skill sets.
A team of experts in the field of implants has been recruited, with Dr Anne O’Donoghue, Dr Maher Kemmoona, Dr Frank Houston and Professor Brian O’Connell all signed up as tutors.
The ten-month course will see successful dentists attain the IFDPC Certificate in Implant Dentistry. It will include a theoretical component, a surgical element and a restorative phase.
The venue for the course is the Northumberland Institute of Dental Medicine, Dublin, which specialises in dental implantology and oral rehabilitation and is an ideal location to provide instruction, mentoring and support for clinicians wishing to upskill in implantology.
The course is constructed to ensure that the relevant material and hands-on components are comprehensively covered, and that participants will get an early introduction to the hands-on element.
The course starts in April 2012 and it is envisaged that participants will have surgically placed two to three implants before a summer break in June. The restorative phase will commence in the early autumn. The course is limited to 12 participants to ensure one-to-one mentoring.
This event is kindly sponsored by Straumann UK (www.straumann.com).
