AIDI launches training certificate

by Guy Hiscott

The Association of the Irish Dental Industry (AIDI) launched its new training certificate in conjunction with the BDTA on 13 April.

Terry Abbot of the BDTA provided delegates with an introductory seminar at the Henry Schein Ireland premises in Dublin.

The Introduction to Dentistry certificate being offered by the AIDI is a training course designed to raise the level of understanding and give an appreciation of the work of the whole dental team.
It has 10 modules that together provide a basic understanding of dentistry. The course is estimated to take 20 hours of study to complete the examination successfully.

Designed for those new to dentistry and those who supply and provide a service to the dental industry, course is written by specialists, providing step-by-step training in all areas of dentistry and dental equipment. The topics covered are:
1. Welcome to dentistry
2. Oral and dental anatomy and physiology and dental charting
3. Oral health and disease
4. Diagnosis and radiography
5. Restorative dentistry
6. Dental technology
7. Laboratory procedures
8. The dental environment and dental equipment
9. Infection control in dentistry
10. Minor oral surgery, anaesthesia and sedation.

The certificate relies heavily on home study until the revision seminar, which will be held approximately two weeks before the exam.
