The PRSI scheme should not be discontinued, writes the Irish Dental Association in its pre-Budget submission to the Government.

The Association warns that abandoning the scheme would withdraw a service that workers have already paid for through their taxes.

Also highlighted in the report is that young children with special needs are having to wait up to three years to see a public dentist. To help reduce this crisis, the IDA’s submission also supports lifting the HSE moratorium on the recruitment of public dental surgeons.

Further, the IDA has asked the Government to review the impact of the VAT difference between the Republic and Northern Ireland, and to remove VAT from essential dental health products.
